This is a fantastic video from PBS' Idea Channel about internet dialects, presented by Mike Rugnetta. It's half as long as it looks, and contains this beauty of a pseudo-determinist definition: "Available technology influencing components of mediated communication". The technology (the internet) and the structure (i.e. 4chan's green text, tumblr's innate gif support) are what help form their unique "dialects". Not to mention the fact that Rugnetta himself has a very strong internet dialect (in the more traditional sense) - he speaks like many edutainment YouTube stars (e.g. CGP Grey).
He does pronounce "gif" as "zaif", though, which should come with a trigger warning.
